Executive Function Skills Coaching
Helping Young Adults Build the Skills That Make Independence Possible
Every day, young people are expected to manage their time, stay organized, plan ahead, and follow through on tasks — at school, at work, and at home. These are called executive function skills, and for many transition-age youth (ages 14–25), they don’t come naturally. That’s okay. These skills can be learned.
At Lincoln Square Coaching, we work one-on-one with young people to strengthen the real-world thinking skills that support success in school, employment, and daily life. Our coaching is individualized, strengths-based, and built around what matters most to your young person and your family.
What Are Executive Function Skills?
Executive function is a set of mental skills that help us get things done. Think of them as the “management system” of the brain. They include things like:
- Starting a task and staying focused on it
- Managing time and meeting deadlines
- Keeping track of belongings, assignments, or responsibilities
- Breaking a big goal into smaller, manageable steps
- Adjusting when plans change or things don’t go as expected
- Thinking before acting and managing emotions in tough moments
What’s really going on?
When these skills are still developing, a young person might seem unmotivated, disorganized, or “not trying hard enough” — but what’s really happening is that they need support building the internal tools that make follow-through possible.
How Our Coaching Works
Our executive function coaching is delivered by trained career and transition coaches who understand how these skills connect to real life — not just school performance, but employment readiness, self-advocacy, and growing independence.
Here’s what families can expect:
Personalized Approach
Starts with understanding your young person’s strengths, interests, and challenges.
Practical Strategies & Tools
Real solutions for real situations — not worksheets, but tools they can use right away.
Supportive & Collaborative
Coaching sessions that feel encouraging and collaborative, not like another class or therapy appointment.
Family Communication
Regular communication with families so you know what’s being worked on and how to reinforce it at home.
Connected Services
Connection to other Lincoln Square Coaching services when helpful, including career exploration, job readiness, and workplace social skills support.
Our coaching is designed for youth who may be:
- Struggling with organization, time management, or follow-through at school or work
- Preparing for greater independence, such as college, a first job, or living on their own
- Receiving services through ACCES-VR or another vocational rehabilitation program
- On an IEP or 504 plan and looking for additional support beyond what school provides
- Navigating ADHD, autism, learning disabilities, or other conditions where executive function is part of the picture
Who Is This For?
